Control arms, also known as A-arms, are rods that connect the wheel hubs to your car's axles. They keep a steady hand on the wheels to keep them on the ground, using their A-shape to act as shoulders that allows the driver to control the car smoothly, even as the wheels go through road irregularities like potholes and rocks.

Maintaining smooth control over your navigation is integral to its safety and efficiency. Without the A-arms (and other parts of the suspension system), your chassis would move in a way that would make it impossible to see and sit in. Keeping the control arms lubed and cleaned often would prevent rust from corroding the material quicker than expected.

The A-arms generally reach the end of their lifetimes every 50,000 miles or so, depending on a person's driving conditions. Uneven tire wear, steering vibrations, and unexpected pulling are all signs of a faulty control arm, all signs of which require immediate attention.
